In fifth grade, my favorite teacher announced my destiny; I would become “a teacher or a writer”.

Offended by her apparent certainty–and the fact that several, noteworthy peers stood nearby, giggling at my predicted future–I scoffed, and countered with some ridiculous comment about wanting to become a mathematician. Of course, that was not to be–(and both of us knew it).

Well, it’s been twenty years (give or take…remember, math isn’t my thing) since Mrs. B predicted my future, and I guess you could say she was right.

In 2009, I received a Bachelor of Arts in English, and went on to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching from Seattle University in 2012. Since then, I’ve  taught a variety of courses, including on-level and advanced, ranging from grades 8-12. I’ve received certification in both A.P. Literature and I.B. Literature courses, and am currently pursuing National Board certification. As for the “writer” part…I’m still working in it, but I’ll keep you posted!
